Follow the RV Polarstern
The Polarstern, a research vessel of the German Alfred Wegner Institute, is undertaking a 30 day journey from Punta Arenas in Chile to Bremenhaven in Germany.
The boat left Chile on 21 March 2017 and has now reached the tropics.
On the Polarstern, Dr Oliver Sievers, a forecaster of the Deutscher Wetterdienst, is helping gathering useful data for maritime navigation.
This experience will help Dr Sievers to demonstrate the importance of satellite data for the day-to-day life and navigation of ships and to improve his understanding of on-site training.
You can follow the adventures of Dr Sievers and the Polarstern on EUMETSAT’s scienceblog.
