Global Ocean Colour – 2017

This fascinating video, narrated by Hayley Evers-King (Marine Earth Observation Scientist at Plymouth Marine Lab) highlights a year of ocean chlorophyll measurements as well as blooms of microscopic phytoplankton – did you know that these tiny plants provide more than half of the world’s oxygen?!

The measurements are observed by satellites such as the Copernicus Sentinel-3 series, which are operated by EUMETSAT. These satellites provide data on our oceans for weather and ocean forecasting and climate change monitoring.
